What is ChatGPT & What Does it Do?
ChatGPT is a chatbot that answers queries from users. It is built using the language model of artificial intelligence and its algorithms. Developed by OpenAI in November 2022, ChatGPT has already started surpassing its competitors.
Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF) is an additional layer of training that uses human feedback to help ChatGPT learn the ability to follow directions and generate responses that are satisfactory to humans.
ChatGPT can be used for asking questions, writing codes, translating languages, creating PowerPoint presentations, asking for ideas for a birthday party, and much more.
What does Google Search Engine do?
Google has made its name in the world of Search Engines. Just type the problem, and your screen gets flooded with different solutions from different platforms.
What is a search engine? A search engine is a software program that helps people find the information they are looking for online using keywords or phrases. Search engines are capable of providing results quickly, even when the internet is full of millions of websites, by scanning the internet and finding the most appropriate ones. Similarly Google’s search engine is best example of internet in real time.
Google has branched out into a number of areas, such as cloud computing, software, and hardware. Recently the company moved into the mobile hardware market by creating its first Google phone, Pixel.
Can ChatGPT replace Google and its traditional search?
Well, here, talking about replacing google is in the way of a search engine. Search engines do not know what they are serving up, nor do they pretend to. Their job is to crawl the internet and find the most relevant searches. In theory, ChatGPT can be used for search, but this version certainly has not been designed for that. Firstly, ChatGPT is not designed to crawl the web.
Thus you can not go and find the information and know where it is sourced from. Secondly, ChatGPT’s knowledge is limited as it was trained on facts that end in 2021. So, according to chatGPT, Queen Elizabeth II is still alive, and Russia never invaded Ukraine, as these events happened in 2022. Gary Marcus recently mocked the issue in a tweet, writing, “All you need to do (to make ChatGPT operate) is connect it up to a search engine!”. But it is not necessary that ChatGPT cannot improve on this and it turns out to be one of the biggest disadvantages of using chatgpt. OpenAI’s co-founder John Schulman is on record saying that an upgrade, tentatively called WebGPT, may be out in the next few months. Hence it is also not certain if ChatGPT will replace google search which is a traditional search engine.
News is not very good for Google as it is already coming across some negative points.
Google Search is falling off the relevance chart:
- Google search results are ads-only, with little or no organic search results. It is slowly losing its organic search and getting filled with advertisements.
- YouTube. Yes, you read it right. the traditional to-do websites have been replaced/downranked. And guess who replaced it? Youtube.
But still, most people believe ChatGPT will not replace Google as it has a different approach to its work.
The intent of ChatGPT (and its ancestor GPT) is to have the following:
- Meaning out of textual information — both in terms of data and sentiment
- Generate a response based on the intent (what the user has asked) and context (what has already been discussed) to give human-like conversational results.
Conclusion
ChatGPT’s power lies in understanding human language and generating a response based on millions of textual content pages.
ChatGPT is an immediate threat to Google, but it will eventually become a good competitor. As Microsoft has invested in ChatGPT, it will make its way to Bing and Microsoft technology. In answer to chatbots like chatgpt, google also introduced Bard AI.It is a little too early to remark ChatGPT is replacing Google, though. Let’s wait for the near future.!
